Promoting Positive School Climate Initiative and PBIS at HLCS:

What is PBIS?
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a system that schools create based on each school’s unique culture, strengths and needs.  Throughout first semester of the 2015-2016 school year, HLCS staff will be working on installing the key features of PBIS throughout Houghton Lake Community Schools.  Implementation of PBIS will begin in Spring 2016.

Key features of PBIS include:

  • Common expected behaviors

  • Direct teaching and monitoring of expected behaviors

  • Positive feedback (acknowledgement) systems

  • Corrective feedback and consequence systems

  • Use of behavioral data to guide decision-making

  • A continuum of behavioral strategies, supports, and interventions

This work is being lead by PBIS Leadership Team in each building that includes the Building Principal, classroom teachers, interventionists and specialists.
